Capacitor Upgrades

The typical life of capacitors in UPS System is about 8 to 9 years. The ambient temperature has the largest effect on life. If the UPS Systems is not installed in a cool environment the life of theses capacitors further reduces.

At Tristar we check these capacitors using a capacitance meter and an oscilloscope by measuring the capacitance, ripple voltage and current. If we notice a premature failure or if your unit has capacitors that would affect your load or battery life we recommend our customers to upgrade these capacitors.

We have arrangements with all the leading capacitor manufacturing companies to purchase these capacitors at a competitive price. We pass these saving to our customers and typically save our customer about 10 to 15% on capacitor upgrades.

Fan Upgrades

Every model fan, regardless of manufacturer, will exhibit different life characteristics depending on the combination of age (typically 8 to 9 years), ambient temperature, mounting attitude, environment and restriction to airflow conditions typically happens when air filters are not replaced at regular intervals or when the air flow is blocked.

At Tristar we check and address these issues regularly during preventive maintenance visits. However if the fans are old (typically 8 to 9 years) or if we notice high bearing temperatures or squeaky noise we recommend our customers to replace their UPS fans to avoid any catastrophic failures due to raise in temperature.
